K-9 Focus

Print scent. Print curiosity. Print interaction.

TimeMass K-9 Focus is an experimental 3D-printing filament developed by String Cubed Inc. on the Timeplast Material Platform. Formulated with real bacon, bone broth, and liver protein, it creates a naturally meat-derived aroma within a printable material.

Unlike scented objects that have fragrance applied after printing, K-9 Focus incorporates its aroma-producing ingredients directly into the filament. This makes the material itself part of the interaction and opens the door to exploring how geometry, surface area, movement, temperature, moisture, and time influence scent and animal response.

The name K-9 Focus reflects where the experiment began, but the idea is much bigger:

What happens when scent becomes part of a 3D-printed object?

Print. Observe. Discover.

How It Works

Real meat-derived ingredients are embedded throughout the printable polymer matrix rather than sprayed onto its surface.

Once printed, the object’s design becomes part of the experiment. Open structures may expose more scented surface area, articulated forms introduce movement, and different geometries may influence how the aroma is released and perceived over time.

K-9 Focus is designed for supervised, non-consumable scent investigation, research, demonstration, and product development. It is not an edible treat or chew toy.

Where to Use It

K-9 Focus opens the door to exploring:

  • Training and scent-detection tools

  • Supervised scent-enrichment prototypes

  • Veterinary enrichment and animal-behavior research

  • Animal-focused product design and concept validation

  • Programmable aroma-release demonstrations

  • Non-consumable scent displays

  • Puzzle concepts with separately inserted edible treats

These applications are only the beginning.

A simple sample of the material can begin the experiment. Observe how an animal responds under active supervision, compare it with a conventional printed material, or explore how different shapes and surface areas change the interaction.

Every print is an opportunity to rethink what a functional material can do.

Printing Recommendations

For a reliable starting point, we recommend using a 0.8 mm nozzle, a slower print speed, and the specialized TimeMass processing window provided for this material.

Because K-9 Focus contains organic ingredients, avoid unnecessarily high temperatures or leaving the material inside a hot nozzle for extended periods. Print a small test first and access the complete settings through our specialized Timeplast GPT printing assistant.

Safety Notes

This experimental filament and objects printed from it are intended for research, demonstration, product-development, investor-showcase, and supervised non-consumable applications only.

The material is not FDA approved and is not intended for animal or human consumption. Do not allow animals or humans to eat the filament or printed objects.

Allow printed objects to cool completely before use. Always supervise animal interaction and immediately remove the object if an animal begins biting, tearing, or attempting to ingest the material.

If you have questions, concerns, or difficulty printing, contact us at timeplast@timeplast.com. We work with every customer to help them achieve successful prints.
